This project will explore the idea of contextual texts in exploring how similar types of content can be repurposed for different audiences. The source material is a collection of short stories by Raymond Carver in its commercial form, manuscript form, and associated reference or academic writing.
Through analysis of the selected texts I designed both individual and comparative versions of the stories as hand-bound books complete with cover designs. I also explored the technical aspects of the process in creating a single source document of all text that can be mapped to the typographic styles of each deliverable.

Commercial version
The commercial version of the original short story collection is designed for the casual reader in trade paperback form. It features significantly shorter versions of the stories edited by Gordon Lish as compared to the original manuscripts.
Manuscript version
The manuscript version is designed for the enthusiast or collector as a hardback. It features significantly longer versions of the stories as the author originally intended.
Academic version The academic version is a comparison of the two previous versions merging the two texts together in a experimental way to highlight the key differences.
